I haven’t written about DJ gadgets yet because I was waiting for something worthwhile to come along. I am huge believer in big brand names in this industry as the good brands (Pioneer, Technics) usually make the best products.

I have worked with most of the turntables and CD turntables available whilst working as a club/house DJ (moonlighting on the side) during my time in London and the quality levels of these can vary greatly. This can be difficult if you are used to mixing with a strong heavy plate on your turntable and then you go to play on a cheaper deck and give it a little nudge and the thing spins around like a hamster wheel on speed.

However, Tech Digest is reporting that a new Numark turntable with USB connectivity and iPod capability has been launched in the Numark TTi.

Numark says: “TTi’s integrated line-level output allows quick, easy connection to any mixer for instant playback from your iPod or vinyl records and ±10% pitch control is included to enable adjustment of playback speed.

“TTi includes EZ Vinyl Converter 2 (PC) and EZ Audio Converter (MAC); the simplest way to record and convert vinyl directly to iTunes. EZ Vinyl Converter 2 features Gracenote® MusicID technology, which analyzes your vinyl and automatically retrieves album, artist and song information for you. EZ Audio Converter lets you easily enter track information. On Mac or PC, you can now digitally archive your collection in just a few mouse clicks.”

To be honest this looks like a bit of a gimmick to me and I don’t think this is for the professional DJ. This would be good for someone starting out in their bedroom or for someone who has a shed-load of Retro Vinyl stuffed in their back bedroom that they want to shove it onto their MP3 Player before it all gets too scratched.
